UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund or previously known as United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund has created a UNICEF Cryptocurrency Fund to collect and hand out donations in the form of bitcoin and Ethereum.
The digital currencies collected as contributions will not be swapped with any kind of typical currencies as the crypto donations will be given out as how it is received for open source technology. According to Henrietta Fore, Executive Director of UNICEF, this course of action is new and exciting.
She emphasized that it is vital to get hands-on something that will be of great support to enhance the younger generations’ way of life. The Ethereum Foundation will be the primary contributor to the UNICEF crypto fund, where the funds will be used for three grantees and enable schools worldwide to get connected to the internet.
Executive Director of Ethereum Foundation, Aya Miyaguchi said, “the Ethereum Foundation is excited to demonstrate the power of what Ethereum and blockchain technology can do for communities around the world.” He added that the joint effort is to upgrade the accessibility towards supplies, fundamental needs and rights.
