Last week, the chairwoman of Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina said that national cryptocurrency is not necessary to be issued as there is no obvious need.
Now, the Russian government has gone a level up and blocked the access to a couple of major cryptocurrency news websites, Cointelegraph and Coinspot. Although the reasons for blocking the websites differ, the outcome is the same.
As for Cointelegraph, the decision was taken based on Russia’s Federal Tax Service’s request made in December 2017. Despite the request made two years ago, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) only took action to ban the website now.
Whereas, Coinspot was banned due to Prosecutor’s Office of Danilovsky District in Volgograd region’s request to remove a specific feature on finding blockchain casino, which ended in majority search engines restricting the access to the website itself.
Both of the cases are justified based on the law with regards to information, information technology, and information protection, which was made effective in 2016.
