The telecom industry has been serving almost all the necessary infrastructure for the blockchain technology to operate. Recently, the Carrier Blockchain Study Group (CBSG) has announced that Taiwan-based Asia Pacific Telecom (APTG) and an unspecified US-based carrier have successfully completed Proof-of-Business (POB) cross-carrier blockchain payments for customers using its platform.
According to a press release, the POB mobile payment transactions were conducted using the Cross-Carrier Payment System (CCPS) platform, a cross-carrier blockchain payment network developed by TBCASoft.
Mobile subscribers from the US carrier visiting Taiwan are able to purchase at participating merchants and pay using their mobile payment app while on APTG’s payment network called GT Pay, which is connected to the CCPS network. The platform allows the transactions to be billed and paid via direct carrier billing in the purchaser’s home-currency.
It is said that APTG will be the first of its kind to launch the cross-border mobile payment and commercialize it in the Taiwan market.
