Antminer E3 is the first and only Ethash algorithm ASIC device produced by Bitmain. Reportedly, the world’s most powerful hardware for mining Ether (ETH) will allegedly stop Ethereum mining in April 2020.
According to a report by altcoin mining firm 2Miners, there was an unexpected drop in AntMiner E3 hashrate on Ethereum Classic (ETC) cryptocurrency mining pool while Ethereum (ETH) mining was working fine. The hashrate dropped by almost seven folds from 80-200 MH/s to 30 MH/s.
Based on investigations, the miners saw this as a normal problem which is mostly caused by enhanced DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) file volume. As DAG files grow each 30,000 blocks, or mining epoch, the memory capacity has apparently reached its limit. Hence, it limited the usage of Antminer E3 for mining ETC.
The issue has been widespread on social media where some community commentators discussed and suggested that this was an opportunity for the production of other capable miners by Bitmain’s competitors.
