Blockchain technology has continued to rise in influence across several countries and industries, including aviation. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, is the latest Netherlands-based aviation firm to integrate blockchain into its platform, as the firm seeks to enhance settlements across several of its subsidiaries.
KLM has partnered with the blockchain startup, Unchain.io, to develop a solution that would facilitate financial and accounting processes allowing to avoid excessive bureaucracy and time consumption. According to the press release, the startup works closely with the KLM team, to provide the design and implementation of the settlement capability using R3’s Corda technology.
Dominique Vijverberg, an innovation specialist at KLM Finance, explained that the project had gone through several rounds of research and had been assessed by the KLM Digital Studio, the innovation arm of KLM. Notably, the integration of blockchain into KLM’s infrastructure is yet another significant milestone for the relationship between both the technology and the industry.
