In early 2019, Malaysia made the first step to regulate bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency service providers and exchanges are required to obtain permission to operate from the Securities Commission, which will work with the central bank to ensure full compliance.
Malaysia permits Bitcoin mining and trading. The Central Bank of Malaysia has, however, made a statement that it considers that Bitcoin is not a legal offer and its users are poorly protected against operational and fraudulent plans.
